Chamber lunch Wednesday

HILLSBOROUGH -- The August Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce luncheon will be held at noon Wednesday at the Exchange Club. Speakers will be Susan Bourner of Habitat for Humanity and Patrick Rhodes of Orange County Schools, who will be speaking about OCS's partnership with Habitat to complete a home in the Fairview Community. Catering is by the Village Diner.

From 5 to 7 on Aug. 27, the Government Affairs Committee will meet members of the Orange County and Town of Hillsborough Planning Boards at a Business After Hours. Hosted by Leland Little Auction & Estate Sales, 620 Cornerstone Court in Hillsborough, this is an opportunity for chamber members and the public to get to know Planning Board volunteers in an informal setting.

Group opposes center closure

HILLSBOROUGH -- Orange County Voice, a grassroots activist organization, plans to oppose plans by the county to close the Bradshaw Quarry Convenience Center during the Board of Orange County Commissioners' meeting tonight.

In an e-mail advisory sent out on Sunday, Orange County Voice said: "Please help us support the Orange Grove Fire Department and concerned residents who will ask the commissioners to reconsider their decision to close the Bradshaw Quarry center. Instead of closing the center entirely, the community will ask the board to reduce the hours -- just as they are doing for the county's other four convenience centers."

The County Commission meeting will be at the Central Orange Senior Center, which adjoins the Triangle Sportsplex, 103 Meadowlands Drive, Hillsborough, at 7 tonight.
