$436K in grants go to Durham groups
RALEIGH -- North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources Secretary Linda Carlisle on Wednesday announced the awarding of $7.7 million in funding for arts programs and projects across the state for fiscal 2009-10.
The grants include $436,248 to Durham County groups, $200,576 to Orange County groups, $34,695 to Chatham County groups, $18,601 to a Granville County group and $14,221 to a Person County group.
Breakdown of grants
In Durham, grants were made to the following groups for the following accompanying projects:
n Carolina Theatre -- Pathways to Understanding Arts series: three touring artists performances, two community outreach workshops, three meet the artists -- $10,000.
n Carolina Wren Press -- To publish and promote Phoebe Hoss's memoir, "All Eyes," including the development of a reader's guide for book clubs and a targeted marketing plan for audiences whose lives have been affected by mental illness -- $5,000.
n Health Arts Network at Duke -- Performances by professional artists for patients, caregivers, families, and visitors in patients' rooms and public areas at the Duke Medical Center -- $10,000.
n Indian Classical Music and Dance Society -- "Traditional Indian Arts Responding to Contemporary Realities" performances, lectures and master-classes -- $5,000.
n WUNC Radio -- Four Back Porch Music-branded concerts at the American Tobacco Historic District outdoor concert stage -- $5,000.
n First Environments Early Learning Center -- Classes with Faye Stanley using multicultural movement with children 3-5 and teacher training -- $5,000.
n Mallarme Chamber Players -- Project MAP twice weekly, after-school initiative to instruct students in musical performance, composition, visual art and poetry -- $12,000.
n Durham Arts Council -- Creative Workforce, $25,000.
n St. Joseph's Historic Foundation Creative Workforce Creative Workforce $20,000.
n Durham Arts Council -- Various arts programs -- $66,298.
n African American Dance Ensemble -- operating support -- $35,000.
n American Dance Festival -- operating support -- $85,000.
n Full Frame Documentary Film Festival -- operating support -- $45,000.
n Mallarme Chamber Players -- operating support -- $25,000.
n Manbites Dog Theater Company -- operating support -- $25,000.
n St. Joseph's Historic Foundation -- operating support -- $50,000.
n Alisha Brice Intern Program -- Internship -- $5,000.
